about

The Sampson Flat bushfires of 2015 in South Australia became the impetus for this song. The verses, for the most part, dwell on metaphors of damage with the choruses providing a lift culminating in an optimistic ‘yeah’. While the moody musical influence of now-defunct Melbourne band Sandro is apparent, the song concludes the first half of the record in a hopeful way.

lyrics

Catastrophic
They cannot stop it
Burning wild

Sometimes there are
Fires for us
Burning us

After the fires
We’ll start again
After the fires
Yeah

Many things are
Devastated
All seems lost

We are damaged
But we can manage
And move on

After the fires
We’ll start again
After the fires
Yeah
