A dark lullaby following an attack of night terrors. A duel vocal harmony line extends the baroque-pop feel of the song adding to the eerie atmosphere. Hammer movie soundtracks from the 70’s and the haunting influence of Nick Drake can be heard. The reassurances of the parent to the terror-stricken child throughout the song are made doubtful by the tenebrous oboe and bassoon orchestration in the final moments suggesting that while the lullaby is over, the terror is not.
lyrics
The bad dream you just had was a nightmare, not real
And the things that you saw were imaginary
All the monsters that came do not exist here
You're home, you're safe
It was a just a dream
Time to go back to sleep and to dream a good dream
The light will be on so you will not be afraid
Think of beautiful things like wide open fields
And now, sleep well
It was just a dream
I can see that you think that the bad dreams are real
But if you think of good thoughts, they might go away
And tomorrow will bring a happy new day
It's time to sleep
It was just a dream
I know that you are scared, I will hold you a while
And sing you a song I heard when I was a child
It does comfort me still, both day and by night
To sleep, in peace
It was just a dream
I will lay here with you, till you drift off to sleep
I will keep watch with vigil to make things alright
There is nothing to fear with me at your side
Rest now and sleep
It was just a dream
