The second half of the record brings into sharper focus the idea of place and its influence. The chorus of ‘Somewhere Else’ expresses the desire to be far away, yet the verses counter this with mundane observations of suburbia with an almost jail-like dreariness. This tension is further highlighted with the song being sung as a duet courtesy of Kate Kowald from the band Sons of Zoku.
lyrics
I …
I … I wanna be
Somewhere else
I …
I … I wanna be
Somewhere else
You are far away
Yet somehow you are near to me
You keep me awake
When I’m trying to drift off to sleep
I …
I … I wanna be
Somewhere else
I …
I … I wanna be
Somewhere else
At night there’s a shaft of light
From the hallway through a crack in the door
The shape of it’s strange and weird
But I feel like I have seen it before
I …
I … I wanna be
Somewhere else
I …
I … I wanna be
Somewhere else
I …
I … I wanna be
Somewhere else
I …
I … I wanna be
Somewhere else
